**How we know**

Every figure here is as cancilleria.gov.co publishes it, checked 18 August 2026. Where a number is our own arithmetic rather than a printed figure, the row says so.

Sources are listed further down the page.

## What to know before you apply

Two stale figures corrected: the fees are USD 56 + USD 183, not the USD 55 + USD 177 every secondary source quotes — and MinJusticia's own page still shows the old numbers, so two government pages disagree; the Cancillería schedule is authoritative. Practical note published by Cancillería: nationals who do not need a short-stay visa may enter WITHOUT any visa on a Permiso de Ingreso for up to 90 days, extendable to 180 days per calendar year, provided no Colombian company pays them — so for stays under six months the visa is often unnecessary.

## What it means for your tax days

Cancillería's visa page says nothing about taxation, and Colombian tax residency (administered by DIAN) was not checked — no tax claim is made here. A visa is permission to stay; tax residency follows the days. Colombia treats you as tax resident once you are present 183 days Estatuto Tributario article 10: a person is resident when they remain in the country 'continúa o discontinuamente ... por más de ciento ochenta y tres (183) días calendario incluyendo días de entrada y salida del país, durante un periodo cualquiera de trescientos sesenta y cinco (365) días calendario consecutivos' — more than 183 calendar days, continuous or discontinuous, including the days of entry and exit, in any period of 365 consecutive calendar days. Where that stay straddles more than one taxable year, 'se considerará que la persona es residente a partir del segundo año o periodo gravable' — residency attaches from the second year., and residents are taxed on worldwide income. Days are not the only test: Article 10 also contains further residency tests for Colombian nationals (based on the location of a spouse or dependent children, the share of income from Colombian sources, the share of assets managed or held in Colombia, failure to prove residence abroad, and residence in a listed tax haven) and for those in the Colombian foreign service. We read the day-count limb of article 10 verbatim but not the full list, so those additional tests are noted rather than quoted. The full tests and the official source are on our [Colombia tax-day page](https://doastretch.com/tax-days/colombia/).

## Questions people ask about Colombia

Yes. Colombia runs the Visa V Nómada Digital, which grants an initial stay of 24 months (valid up to two years. no renewal mechanism is described officially — a fresh application is the documented route on expiry. holders of any visa valid more than three months must register with migración colombia within 15 calendar days.). Checked 18 August 2026 against cancilleria.gov.co.

**How much do you need to earn for the Colombia digital nomad visa?**

based on 3 SMLMV a month — Published in legal minimum monthly wages, not pesos: bank statements must show income of at least three (3) Salarios Mínimos Legales Mensuales Vigentes per month over the last 3 months. NOT CONVERTED — no official source for the 2026 SMLMV value in pesos could be reached, so the widely circulated figure of about COP 5,252,715/month is deliberately not published here.. That is the figure as published; check the official page for the current amount before you apply.

**How long can you stay on the Colombia digital nomad visa?**

24 months on the initial permission; valid up to two years. no renewal mechanism is described officially — a fresh application is the documented route on expiry. holders of any visa valid more than three months must register with migración colombia within 15 calendar days.. Stretch counts the days either way and tells you the date you must be out.

**Does a digital nomad visa in Colombia make you tax resident?**

Not by itself — but staying does. Colombia treats you as tax resident once you are there 183 days Estatuto Tributario article 10: a person is resident when they remain in the country 'continúa o discontinuamente ... por más de ciento ochenta y tres (183) días calendario incluyendo días de entrada y salida del país, durante un periodo cualquiera de trescientos sesenta y cinco (365) días calendario consecutivos' — more than 183 calendar days, continuous or discontinuous, including the days of entry and exit, in any period of 365 consecutive calendar days. Where that stay straddles more than one taxable year, 'se considerará que la persona es residente a partir del segundo año o periodo gravable' — residency attaches from the second year., and residents are taxed on worldwide income. **How does Stretch help with the Colombia digital nomad visa?**

Log the day you land and Stretch counts the days against the permission you are on, shows the date you must be out, and reminds you at 14, 7, 3 and 1 days. It also tallies the days that count towards tax residency, so the 183-day question answers itself. The counting and the alerts are free, forever.
