**How we know**

Every figure here is as migracion.gob.sv publishes it, checked 18 August 2026. Where a number is our own arithmetic rather than a printed figure, the row says so.

## What to know before you apply

No digital nomad or remote-worker visa exists, and none is announced. The migration directorate publishes its full service catalogue: temporary residence runs F1-F16 (transitory, temporary, temporary with work authorisation, investor, business, commercial representative, pensioners, rentiers, accompanying family, studies, shareholders, individual traders, aid workers, trafficking victims, humanitarian, religious) with no remote-work category, and the visa list contains none either. Closest routes: the rentier or pensioner categories for people living on foreign passive income, temporary residence with work authorisation if locally sponsored, or the investor route. A tourist stay can be extended by up to 90 days by email application. IMPORTANT: the income thresholds and fees for the rentier and pensioner categories are NOT published on the public pages — they sit inside downloadable forms that were not retrieved — so no figure is quoted here. El Salvador's widely reported "Freedom Visa" is a USD 1,000,000 investment and citizenship programme run through a private operator, not a nomad visa, and does not appear in the government catalogue.

## What it means for your tax days

A visa is permission to stay; tax residency follows the days you actually spend. Check El Salvador's tax authority for the day test that applies to you — and count the days either way.

**How does Stretch help with the El Salvador stay?**

Log the day you land and Stretch counts the days against the permission you are on, shows the date you must be out, and reminds you at 14, 7, 3 and 1 days. It also tallies the days that count towards tax residency, so the 183-day question answers itself. The counting and the alerts are free, forever.
