Sources are listed further down the page. ## What to know before you apply Official OIF factsheet last edited 2026.03.11, so the scheme is current and operating under the post-2024 third-country-national entry and residence regime (the factsheet's forms cite Ministry of Interior Decree 43/2024). NOT VERIFIED: the procedural fee — the White Card factsheet only cross-refers to a fee factsheet, and the fee factsheet reachable on oif.gov.hu covers exemptions only and states no HUF or EUR amounts, so feeAmount is omitted rather than guessed. Also not verified on an official page: any tax treatment of White Card holders. The EUR 3,000 figure is stated as net monthly income, not gross — commercial sites often quote it without the 'net' qualifier. ## What it means for your tax days A visa is permission to stay; tax residency follows the days. Hungary treats you as tax resident once you are present 183 days At least 183 days in the given calendar year for people exercising EEA free-movement rights; for third-country nationals covered by point 3, fewer than 183 days in any 12-month period means non-resident, and residents are taxed on worldwide income. Days are not the only test: Section 3(2) of Act CXVII of 1995 on personal income tax defines a Hungarian resident individual as: (a) a Hungarian citizen, except one who is simultaneously a citizen of another state and has no registered domestic residence or place of stay; (b) a natural person with free-movement and right-of-residence-over-three-months status who exercises that right in Hungary for at least 183 days in the calendar year; (c) a person with long-term residence status under the third-country nationals act, or a stateless person; and (d) any other natural person who (da) has a permanent home only in Hungary, (db) has their centre of vital interests in Hungary where they have no permanent home or a permanent home in more than one state, or (dc) has their habitual abode in Hungary where the permanent home and centre of vital interests tests do not resolve it. The law defines the centre of vital interests as the state to which the person's closest personal, family and economic ties bind them, and a permanent home as one arranged for lasting occupation and actually lived in; a temporary long stay abroad does not change the permanent home.
