Working in Singapore requires a work pass from the Ministry of Manpower, and there is no pass category whose basis is remote work for a foreign employer. The closest long-stay routes are all employment- or company-based, which a remote worker paid by a foreign company does not satisfy. (1) OVERSEAS NETWORKS & EXPERTISE (ONE) PASS — requires a "Fixed monthly salary of at least S$30,000" with an established employer, or outstanding achievement in sports, arts and culture, or academia and research; granted for 5 years and "is renewable for 5 years each time". Renewal requires maintaining an average salary of S$30,000 over the preceding 5 years, or operating a Singapore company employing at least 5 locals earning the prevailing Employment Pass minimum salary. (2) EMPLOYMENT PASS — for "Foreign professionals, managers and executives with a job offer in Singapore who meet the eligibility criteria." As of April 2026 the qualifying salary is "$5,600 (increases progressively with age from age 23, up to $10,700 at age 45 and above)" outside financial services, and "$6,200 (increases progressively with age from age 23, up to $11,800 at age 45 and above)" in financial services. From 1 January 2027 these rise to "$6,000 (increases progressively with age from age 23, up to $11,500 at age 45 and above)" and "$6,600 (increases progressively with age from age 23, up to $12,700 at age 45 and above)" respectively. Candidates must also "earn 40 points" under the COMPASS framework. Duration: "First-time candidates: Up to 2 years", "Renewals: Up to 3 years". (3) ENTREPASS — for founders holding at least 30% of an ACRA-registered private limited company that is "Venture-backed or owns innovative technologies", qualifying for example by having "raised at least SGD 100,000 from a single funding round from investors for any past or current business". (4) The Long Term Visit Pass is a family/dependant route, not a work route. ## What it means for your tax days A visa is permission to stay; tax residency follows the days. Singapore treats you as tax resident once you are present 183 days At least 183 days of stay/work in the previous calendar year (income is assessed on a preceding-year basis) — though the system is territorial, so foreign income may fall outside it. Days are not the only test: Singapore Citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents who normally reside in Singapore apart from temporary absences are residents. Two administrative concessions extend residence to foreigners: the THREE-YEAR concession (stay or work in Singapore continuously for 3 consecutive years — resident for all 3 years even if under 183 days in the first and third year) and the TWO-YEAR concession (employment straddling 2 calendar years where the employment period plus physical presence immediately before/after covers a continuous period of at least 183 days — resident for both years; applies to foreign employees entering from 1 Jan 2007 but excludes company directors, public entertainers and professionals). Foreigners issued a work pass valid for at least 1 year are also treated as tax resident, subject to review at tax clearance.
