One note first, because the names collide: Nomad Tracker (thenomadtracker.com, Nomad Tracker LLC, US) is a different product from Do a Stretch, working-titled "NomadTracker" before launch. Two unrelated apps.

Who each one is for

Pick Nomad Tracker if you are a US expat on an iPhone asking "am I a tax resident, and how many Schengen days do I have?" — it gives you free GPS, the FEIE 330-day test and US state days without paying. Pick Stretch if your year is Thailand, Georgia, Mexico and Schengen, and you would rather the rules came with the app than be typed in by you.

Nomad Tracker deserves its Product Hunt badge: the maker ships fast, gives GPS away free, and the immigration-versus-fiscal switch is a good idea for anyone with a US tax return. But it is an iOS-only counter whose visa knowledge is four engines plus whatever you type into "custom country rules", and the warnings, vault and exports sit behind a Pro tier in five prices.

Nomad Tracker at a glance

What it is. A day counter for iPhone and iPad from Nomad Tracker LLC (Albuquerque; maker Gotzon Zabala), launched early 2026 and listed as "Nomad Tracker: Schengen Visa". It logs your days in each country, by hand or by GPS, and runs four engines over the log: Schengen 90/180, a 183-day count with a configurable tax-year start, the US FEIE 330-day test, and US states. A switch shows the same days through an immigration or a fiscal lens. Ghost Trips simulate future travel, photo metadata backfills history. No account, optional iCloud sync.

Price. Free: manual logging, GPS, the Schengen, 183-day, FEIE and US-state counters, Ghost Trips, maps. Pro adds calendar sync, Smart Alerts, an OCR scanner and encrypted Vault, planners, exports and iCloud sync, at $3.99 a month, $14.99 or $29.99 a year, or $69.99 or $129.99 lifetime on the US App Store. Stretch at a glance

The app. Counts every country on your passports from one log. Log the day you land, in two taps, and it shows the days left, sets the date you must be out, and reminds you at 14, 7, 3 and 1 days. It counts limits that reset when you leave and rolling windows like Schengen's 90-in-180, and keeps your e-visas on the stay they cover. That much is free forever, so a lapsed card cannot cause an overstay.

Where the rules come from. Every rule shows its source, the date it was checked and a trust label, and says so when it is not verified — published at doastretch.com/visa for every destination on your passports. Stretch+ ($49.99 a year, 7-day trial) adds Explore, the Visa Desk, on-device GPS logging, tax-day tallies, planning and travel-history PDFs. iPhone and Android.

What gets counted, and where the rules come from

Nomad Tracker counts days per country and lays four engines over them: Schengen's rolling 180-day window, correctly implemented, a 183-day test with any fiscal-year start, FEIE's 330-of-12-months, and US states. For anything else — Thailand, Georgia, Mexico — you build a "custom country rule" with a limit and a window yourself. Its site says "190+ countries", which is where it counts days, not where it knows the limit; the press kit says only that it uses "official fiscal residency rules", with no source or date.

Stretch treats that as the app's job, not yours. One log feeds every rule shape — limits that reset when you leave, rolling windows, visa-on-arrival and e-visa days — and the exit date is set the moment you land. Every rule carries its source, the date it was checked and a trust label. For the Schengen half you need no app: the free calculator runs in a browser.

Reminders and the exit date

Nomad Tracker's Smart Alerts are Pro; on the free tier you open the app and read the runway. Stretch pushes reminders at 14, 7, 3 and 1 days and on the day, for every stay, free. The warning is the one thing that must never sit behind a paywall.

GPS and tax

Credit where it is due. Nomad Tracker gives background GPS away free, keeps location on the device, and rebuilds months of history from photo metadata — Product Hunt commenters singled that out, fairly. It is strongest on tax for Americans too: FEIE 330-day tracking with the 35-day US budget, all 50 states plus DC, and custom fiscal-year starts (6 April in the UK, 1 July in Australia). Stretch's GPS is on-device as well, with you confirming every border, but it sits in Stretch+, and our tax-day tallies have no FEIE or state count.

Documents, paperwork and privacy

Nomad Tracker attaches photos to a day free; the OCR scanner and encrypted Vault are Pro. Stretch keeps e-visas and stickers on the stay they cover, free, and links the arrival cards and portals you must complete before you fly. Stretch+ adds the Visa Desk, which prepares your tourist-visa and entry-declaration forms with you: you review, pay the government and submit — no agency fee, nobody holding your passport scan. Both apps are local-first and account-free; Nomad Tracker's App Store label lists a device identifier collected for analytics, while Stretch has no server and no analytics.

Nomad Tracker's free tier is real and generous. Its Pro is five prices on the US App Store — $3.99 a month, $14.99 or $29.99 a year, $69.99 or $129.99 lifetime — and the pricing page defers to the store. Stretch has one paid plan at $49.99 a year, with everything that keeps you legal free below it. Against their top yearly tier you pay a little more and get Android, the rulebook, the Visa Desk, tax tallies and planning.

Support and the maker

Nomad Tracker is one developer shipping quickly and answering reviews, Product Hunt and Hacker News — when a commenter raised partial-day counting he said it would be in the next release, the right reflex. Stretch is built by one nomad of twelve years who runs his own stays on it.

Choose Nomad Tracker if you…

  • are a US expat needing the FEIE 330-day test and state days beside Schengen;
