What to know before you apply

Announced, not open. President Ilham Aliyev approved the "Action Plan for 2026–2028 on Accelerating Digital Development" on 11 February 2026; the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport's own announcement of the plan includes, verbatim, "'rəqəmsal səyyah' və 'rəqəmsal istedad' vizalarının tətbiqi" (introduction of 'digital nomad' and 'digital talent' visas). Reporting by the state Operative Information Center says implementation is targeted through a unified platform by the end of 2026. The State Migration Service (migration.gov.az) currently publishes no digital nomad or remote-work residence category, and no such category appears on the e-visa portal (evisa.gov.az, which is behind a bot challenge). officialUrl is null because no programme page exists yet. Minor source disagreement on the approval date: the ministry announcement gives 11 February 2026, the Operative Information Center article 27 February 2026 — the ministry date is preferred. Fallback today: Azerbaijan's ASAN/e-Visa gives a 30-day single-entry stay, and longer stays require a temporary residence permit from the State Migration Service on one of the statutory grounds.

What it means for your tax days

The same Action Plan commits to a "Special Tax Regime" with concessions covering social insurance and residency requirements for innovation-sector specialists, but no rates or rules have been published. A visa is permission to stay; tax residency follows the days you actually spend. Check Azerbaijan's tax authority for the day test that applies to you — and count the days either way.

Does a digital nomad visa in Azerbaijan make you tax resident?

The same Action Plan commits to a "Special Tax Regime" with concessions covering social insurance and residency requirements for innovation-sector specialists, but no rates or rules have been published.

How does Stretch help with the Azerbaijan stay?

Log the day you land and Stretch counts the days against the permission you are on, shows the date you must be out, and reminds you at 14, 7, 3 and 1 days. It also tallies the days that count towards tax residency, so the 183-day question answers itself. The counting and the alerts are free, forever.
