How we know

Every figure here is as immigration.gov.bz publishes it, checked 18 August 2026. Where a number is our own arithmetic rather than a printed figure, the row says so.

Status
Open
Visa
Work Where You Vacation — issued by the Immigration Department as the "Long Stay Visitor Permit"
Initial stay
6 months
Renewal
Not renewable. The Immigration Department states the permit is 'Valid for 6 months after the date issued', allows a stay 'NOT exceeding six months in any calendar year', and that 'A permit issued by the department under this section shall not be extended'.
Income required
$75,000 a year — USD $75,000 minimum annual income for a solo applicant; USD $100,000 minimum annual income when applying with dependants. Income must come from employment or contract work outside Belize, evidenced by a job letter/proof of ongoing contracts, proof of income and a notarised banking reference.
Fee
$500 — Immigration Department: 'USD $500 per Adult' and 'USD $200 per Child'. The Belize Tourism Board's programme page instead states '$500 BZD per adult and $200 BZD per child under 18 years of age'. The two official sources disagree on currency (BZD is pegged 2:1 to USD); the Immigration Department is the issuing authority, so its USD figures are used.
Who qualifies
Open to citizens or permanent residents of the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States of America or Canada who work remotely for an employer outside Belize or hold active freelance/contract work with overseas clients. Documents: job letter, proof of income, notarised banking reference, police record issued within the last six months, certified passport copies, travel insurance, and proof of residence where applicable. Mandatory travel insurance with minimum health coverage of USD $50,000 for the stay. The permit does not grant Belizean work authorisation with a local employer, permanent residency or a path to citizenship.
Family
Dependants may be included: spouse and unmarried children/stepchildren/adopted children under 18, or court-certified dependants. The Belize Tourism Board states student permits are waived for participants' children, who can enrol in Belize's school system.

What to know before you apply

The marketing name 'Work Where You Vacation' (Belize Tourism Board) and the legal instrument 'Long Stay Visitor Permit' (Immigration Department) are the same programme; the Immigration Department page is live with an online application portal, so status is live. Fee currency is the one point where the two official pages conflict (see feeNote). No official statement of processing time or tax treatment was found, so both are left null.

What it means for your tax days

A visa is permission to stay; tax residency follows the days you actually spend. Check Belize's tax authority for the day test that applies to you — and count the days either way.
