Not renewable as such. Temporary stay is granted for up to a maximum of 18 months. If granted for less than 18 months, one extension of a maximum of 6 months may be applied for, no later than 60 days before expiry. A new digital-nomad application can only be submitted 6 months after the expiry of the previously granted temporary stay (whether that stay was for digital nomads, another purpose, family reunification or life partnership with the digital nomad).

€3,622.5 a month — MUP: "at least 2.5 average monthly net salaries paid for the previous year" per Croatian Bureau of Statistics data, under the Regulation on the manner of calculating and the amount of means of subsistence for third-country nationals (Official Gazette no. 14/21 and 3/26). MUP currently states "the amount required on a monthly basis is a minimum of 3.622,50 EUR". Increased by 10% of the average monthly net salary for each additional family member or life partner or informal life partner. Lump-sum alternative instead of monthly proof: a minimum of 43.470,00 EUR in the bank account for a 12-month stay, or 65.205,00 EUR for an 18-month stay. Proof: bank statement showing regular income, or payslips for at least six months.
Fee
€46.45 — Applying at a police administration/station (paid after stay is granted): 46,45 EUR for granting temporary stay, plus 9,29 EUR administrative fee for issuance of the biometric residence permit and 31,85 EUR for the biometric residence card (59,73 EUR for accelerated procedure). Applying at a diplomatic mission/consular post (paid on application): 55,74 EUR for granting temporary stay, plus 93,00 EUR for the long-term visa (visa D) or 41,14 EUR for the biometric residence card.
Who qualifies
A third-country national (non-EU/EEA/Swiss) who is employed or performs work through communication technology for a company, or their own company, that is not registered in the Republic of Croatia, and who does not perform work or provide services to employers in the Republic of Croatia. Documents required: valid passport (validity 3 months longer than intended stay), health insurance covering Croatia, proof of purpose (employment/service contract with a foreign employer or registration of own foreign company plus an employer/self statement), proof of means of subsistence, criminal-record certificate (legalised), and a Croatian address.
Family
Close family members of a digital nomad who has already been granted temporary stay may join via temporary stay for the purpose of family reunification, including "common law marriage" partners (unmarried couples together longer than 3 years, or shorter with a child together or on marriage). Family-reunification applications submitted BEFORE the digital nomad has been granted temporary stay are rejected. Means-of-subsistence requirement rises by 10% of the average monthly net salary per additional family member.
Where to apply
Apply online via the MUP digital nomads portal (forwarded to the police administration/station for the intended place of stay), or in person. Visa-exempt nationals may apply at a Croatian embassy/consulate or at the competent police administration/station if legally residing in Croatia, and may remain in Croatia until the decision is enforceable. Nationals who require a visa to enter Croatia MUST apply at a Croatian diplomatic mission/consular office (an application lodged at a police station will be rejected) and obtain a long-term D visa after approval. Extension applications must be lodged in person at a police administration/station no later than 60 days before expiry. After arrival, register the residence address within 3 days and obtain the biometric residence permit.

What to know before you apply

The starting-point figure needed correcting on two counts: the maximum stay is 18 months (not 12), and the current means-of-subsistence figure is 3.622,50 EUR/month, uprated under Official Gazette 3/26 (the Regulation citation on the MUP page now reads "no. 14/21 and 3/26"). The 6-month gap before re-application IS confirmed verbatim on the official page. The "time as a digital nomad does not count toward permanent residence" rule could NOT be verified: the MUP digital-nomad page says nothing about permanent stay / long-term residence, and secondary sources contradict each other on it, so it is omitted here. No taxNote: the MUP page carries no tax information, and the Croatian Tax Administration site (porezna-uprava.hr) returned a generic placeholder page for every path tried, so the commonly repeated claim that digital nomads' foreign income is exempt from Croatian income tax is NOT verified here. MUP states no official processing time.

What it means for your tax days

A visa is permission to stay; tax residency follows the days. Croatia treats you as tax resident once you are present 183 days At least 183 days, in one or in two calendar years — so the period may straddle a year end, and residents are taxed on worldwide income. Days are not the only test: Under the Opći porezni zakon (General Tax Act) a taxpayer has a domicile (prebivalište) where they own or possess a dwelling continuously for at least 183 days in one or two calendar years; actual physical presence in the dwelling is not required. Habitual abode (uobičajeno boravište) is a continuous or temporally connected stay of at least 183 days in one or two calendar years; interruptions of up to one year do not break the count.
