What to know before you apply

QUOTA — the scheme is OPEN, not exhausted. The Migration Department document page, posted 31 December 2025, states verbatim: "The Migration Department is once again accepting applications for residence permits under the 'Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa' scheme. The maximum number of permits that can be granted remains at 500." The phrase "once again" indicates the scheme had previously been closed (quota reached) and has been reopened; the official page gives no count of permits issued to date, so how much headroom remains under the 500 cap is not published. History as published officially: Council of Ministers decision of 15 October 2021 set a ceiling of 100 permits; on 3 March 2022 the ceiling was increased to 500. SOURCE DISAGREEMENT: several secondary sources (e.g. a VisaHQ news item of 31 October 2025 and derivative guides) report that the cap was doubled to 1,000 for 2026. The official Migration Department page, dated later (31 December 2025), says the maximum "remains at 500". The official figure is used here. Also note the official PDF still hosted on gov.cy is the January 2022 edition and states the superseded 100-permit ceiling; the web page is the current text. The official page does NOT state the 20% spouse / 15% per child income uplifts that many secondary sources cite for Cyprus — those uplifts are omitted here as unverified. Applications are handled by the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection (Migration Department), which absorbed the former Civil Registry and Migration Department under moi.gov.cy; the moi.gov.cy pages now redirect into gov.cy.

What it means for your tax days

Official: if the holder resides in the Republic for one or more periods totalling more than 183 days within the same tax year, they are considered tax residents of Cyprus, provided they are not tax residents in any other country. A visa is permission to stay; tax residency follows the days you actually spend. Check Cyprus's tax authority for the day test that applies to you — and count the days either way.
