The long-term visa is granted for the period matching the purpose, at most 1 year. An employee of a foreign employer must, before it expires, apply to extend their Programme enrolment (enrolment decision is valid at most 1 year) and then apply to the Ministry of the Interior for a long-term residence permit for the same purpose ('other'). Freelancer extensions are not handled through the Programme; the freelancer's enrolment decision itself has no time limit.

Income required

73,823 CZK a month — our calculation, not a figure the government prints: 1.5x the published average gross wage (CZK 49,215/month for 1 May 2026 – 30 Apr 2027). — Criterion is income of at least 1.5x the average gross ANNUAL wage announced by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. Official MPO FAQ: for the period 1 May 2026 to 30 April 2027 the average gross annual wage is CZK 590 580 (CZK 49 215/month), so the applicant's gross monthly pay must be at least CZK 73 823. For freelancers the same level must be shown in the client's service-contract promise or sworn statement, spread across the months of the engagement.

Processing

Enrolment in the Programme normally decided within 5 working days of a complete application; the embassy then offers an appointment (typically within 7 working days) and the Ministry of the Interior decides the residence application within 45 days of submission, provided it is complete.

Who qualifies

Nationality-restricted: citizens of Australia, Brazil, India, Israel, Japan, Canada, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, the United Kingdom, the United States or Taiwan. Must perform highly qualified work as an IT specialist or a marketing specialist. Employee route: foreign employer with at least 50 employees worldwide, remote-work possibility in the contract or an employer's sworn statement, plus a STEM higher/tertiary degree or at least 3 years' IT experience (marketing specialists: a tertiary degree of at least 3 years in marketing, advertising or a related field). Freelancer route: notification of a free trade (živnost volná) in Czechia in IT-related business or marketing services. Applicant must not hold, and must not have held in the preceding year, a valid Czech long-term visa or long-term residence permit. There is no legal entitlement to participation and refusals cannot be appealed.

Family

Closest family members — spouse, registered partner, and minor or adult dependent children of the nomad or their spouse/partner — may be enrolled if they apply for residence at the same time and are named in the enrolment application. They apply for a long-term visa for family purposes (adult dependent children: study or 'other' purpose). The Programme is not available to family members following later.

Where to apply

Freelancers first notify a free trade at a Czech trade licensing office. The nomad then applies to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (digitalnomad@mpo.gov.cz) for enrolment; on approval MPO issues a confirmation serving as proof of purpose of stay, and the residence application is filed at a Czech embassy abroad — long-term visa over 90 days for 'other' purpose (employee of a foreign employer) or for business purpose (freelancer/OSVČ).
