What to know before you apply

No digital nomad visa exists. The Foreign Ministry's visa services page lists the full catalogue — tourism (simple and multiple), business (including a multiple business visa for work purposes), dependency, residence, student, diplomatic, official and courtesy visas, plus visa-free entry facilities — and contains no remote-work category. Legal basis is Ley No. 875 of 31 July 1978, with a stated response time of 10 to 20 working days. The closest long-stay route is the Residence visa, whose sub-categories include income-earner (rentista) and pensioner, followed by temporary residency with the Dirección General de Migración; short stays run on the tourist card, and Decreto 691-07 lets holders of valid US, Schengen, Canadian or UK residence or multiple-entry visas enter with just a passport and tourist card. On the reported "announced decree": there is no decree, no gazette entry and no official page creating a digital nomad visa — Dominican press in early 2026 reports only a proposed project, so this is recorded as none rather than announced. Note the frequent aggregator confusion with DOMINICA, a different country, which does run a Work In Nature remote-work visa. migracion.gob.do is behind a bot challenge, so the migration directorate's own residency pages could not be read.
