Morocco's digital nomad visa: no dedicated visa

Morocco has no dedicated digital nomad visa. Here is what that means in practice, what route remote workers actually use, and how the days are counted.

What to know before you apply

Morocco has no digital nomad or remote work visa, and no such route appears on the official Moroccan e-visa portal (acces-maroc.ma), which is operated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and issues only short-stay AEVM electronic visas by travel motive (tourism, business, family). What remote workers actually use: visa-free entry for 90 days for nationals of the many exempt countries, followed either by an exit-and-return or by applying to the local police (DGSN) for a carte d'immatriculation / titre de séjour, which requires a stated ground of residence. Verification limitation a reader should know about: Morocco's consular portal (consulat.ma), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs site (fr.diplomatie.ma) and the national public-service portal (service-public.ma) all reject automated requests ("Request Rejected" / "Please enable JavaScript"), so the residence-permit detail above could not be quoted verbatim from an official page and no figures are recorded here. Nothing found indicates a Moroccan digital nomad visa has been created or announced as of 18 August 2026.

What it means for your tax days

A visa is permission to stay; tax residency follows the days. Morocco treats you as tax resident once you are present 183 days Stays in Morocco EXCEEDING 183 days, continuous or discontinuous, over any rolling 365-day period — expressly 'pour toute période de 365 jours', not the calendar year, and residents are taxed on worldwide income. Days are not the only test: Article 23-II, Code Général des Impôts: "une personne physique a son domicile fiscal au Maroc lorsqu'elle a au Maroc son foyer d'habitation permanent, le centre de ses intérêts économiques ou lorsque la durée continue ou discontinue de ses séjours au Maroc dépasse 183 jours pour toute période de 365 jours." Three alternative tests therefore: a permanent home in Morocco; the centre of one's economic interests in Morocco; or the 183-day rolling count. Moroccan State agents exercising their functions or on mission abroad are also deemed to have their fiscal domicile in Morocco when they are exempt from personal income tax in the foreign country where they reside.
