What to know before you apply

No digital nomad or remote-worker visa exists. The closest routes are the Resident Pensioner and Resident Rentier categories under Ley No. 694, published in the official gazette on 12 August 2009. Article 4 sets the thresholds: a pensioner must show a stable permanent pension received from abroad equivalent to USD 600.00 per month; a rentier must show stable permanent foreign-generated income from profit distributions, rentals or analogous lawful business of at least USD 750.00 per month. The income must be GENERATED ABROAD and be passive or rental in nature, which fits salaried remote employment poorly. Article 5 extends the category to close family and requires an additional USD 150.00 per month per dependant. IMPORTANT — NO LIVE GOVERNMENT PAGE COULD BE REACHED: the migration and legislative sites all timed out or refused connection, so the statute text was read from an archived copy of the official gazette and is tiered secondary. Secondary sources claim a 2024 reform moved applications to the migration directorate in Managua and quote fees of about USD 200 plus USD 500 per person; none of that could be verified. Treat the Ley 694 figures as published statutory text, not as confirmed current practice.

What it means for your tax days

A visa is permission to stay; tax residency follows the days you actually spend. Check Nicaragua's tax authority for the day test that applies to you — and count the days either way.
