What to know before you apply

No digital nomad, remote-work, freelance or self-employment visa exists. The complete Royal Oman Police eVisa catalogue was enumerated across all four visa classes and contains no such category. Residency visas are Employment (requiring an Omani sponsor), Family Joining, Housemaid, Relative Joining, Investor, Student, Citizen Spouse, Property Owner (in an approved tourist complex), Property Owner Joiner's and Cultural. The longest visitor options are a 1-year multi-entry visit visa for approved nationalities and multi-entry visas for certain professions. The closest long-term route is therefore the investor or property-owner visa, not a remote-work route. The ROP listing publishes no durations or fees, so none are quoted; Oman's reported investor/golden residency tiers could not be confirmed (invest.om and mociip.gov.om do not resolve, omanportal.gov.om returns 503, oman.om fails TLS).

What it means for your tax days

A visa is permission to stay; tax residency follows the days. Oman treats you as tax resident once you are present 183 days Not less than 183 continuous or intermittent days during the tax year — though the system is territorial, so foreign income may fall outside it. Days are not the only test: Article 18bis of the Income Tax Law: "A natural person residing in Oman during the tax year, if they are present for a period of no less than 183 (one hundred and eighty-three) continuous or intermittent days during the tax year" is a tax resident. The Tax Authority states the same test for the incoming Personal Income Tax: "Any person who stays in the Sultanate of Oman for more than 183 days is considered a tax resident, whether Omani or non-Omani", and "The number of days of residence (183 days) is continuous or intermittent during the year."
