Schengen Simple earned its 4.8★ from 2,400 UK ratings: the planning calendar is the best in the niche, and George on support is a legend in the reviews. Stretch is the one I would pick — free forever, every country from one log, both phones. If Schengen is your whole travel life, the runner-up is qrallapps: same shape, 4.6★, sold outright.

Why people look for a Schengen Simple alternative

  • A subscription for one calculation. "Why is it subscription based? … there is no need to make it subscription based" (2★, US, 1 March 2026). Full Access is $7.99–$14.99 in the US, £7.99–£14.99 in the UK, $8.99–$54.99 on Play.
  • The price is not always what you were shown. "Only after paying FULL $US9.99, plus tax, did site reveal a $SEVEN.99 annual rate" (1★, US, 4 April 2026). "Random trips that I did not take appear in calendar and cannot be deleted" (1★, UK, 23 January 2026).

Stretch counts every destination on your passports from one log: Schengen's rolling window, limits that reset when you leave, e-visas. Log the day you land and you get the days left, the exit date and reminders at 14, 7, 3 and 1 days, free forever. Every rule carries its source and checked date at doastretch.com/visa. Stretch+ adds GPS logging you confirm at each border, tax-day tallies, planning and the Visa Desk, which prepares your forms with you; you review, pay the government and submit. New, and built by one person — join the waitlist.

2. 90 Days Schengen — the biggest Android Schengen calculator

The Android incumbent from Potsdam developer elgatovital, on Play since March 2019: 100K+ installs, 3.0★ from 694 reviews, the lowest here. It counts your permitted stay, forecasts when days come back and pings you at three days, ad-free, in fifteen languages; planning ahead is paid. "Great, but refill doesn't work so doesn't show when you get your days back" (Play, 10 July 2026) — forecast errors and wiped data recur in the 1★ reviews (our August 2026 market review).

Price. Free; the subscription is $4.49 per item on Google Play (checked 17 August 2026). Android only.

3. Schengen 90/180 Calculator (qrallapps) — best rated on Android

A UK calculator (Qrall Apps, Melksham; on both stores since January 2023) with Schengen Simple's shape — allowance under every date, a forward planner, a passport-control report — free with ads, and sold outright. It is 4.6★ from 652 Play reviews and 188 UK ratings: "I've never found a difference in the results" against the Commission's calculator (Play, 2 March 2025). Outside the zone it is a diary: no other rule is applied.

Price. Free with ads. Pro £1.99/month, £7.99/year or £21.99 lifetime; $1.99–$24.99 on Google Play (checked 17 August 2026).

4. Bounded — best iPhone GPS tracker, when the backfill behaves

Wasl Apps' Bounded launched in February 2026 and already has 4.7★ from 213 US and 4.6★ from 247 UK ratings. It logs your country by GPS, rebuilds past years from your photos, stores passports and visas, and runs 100+ preset counters on the device. The backfill is the risk: UK reviewers in August 2026 report days invented in countries they never visited. No Android, and a preset is a number, not a sourced rule.

Price. Free manual logging. Premium $5.99/month; annual tiers $19.99, $29.99, $49.99, $69.99, $99.99 and $149.99 (checked 17 August 2026). iPhone only.

5. Country Days Tracker — the deepest rules, the thinnest free tier

Andrey Solovyev's iPhone and Mac app (since July 2022, version 7.5) counts days per country over 183, 365 or any range you set, does Schengen 90/180 and UK ILR absences, imports from photos and Flighty, and exports PDFs. It is the deepest rule set here, at 4.0★ from 73 US and 99 UK ratings, and its free tier — the last seven days — is what the low ratings are about.

Price. Free tier limited to recent history. Pro $5.99 or $6.99/month, $34.99/year (checked 17 August 2026).

6. iReside — best for tax-residency days on iPhone

iReside: Tax Residency & Visa (G2M Ventures, Florida) is a GPS day tracker for people splitting time between US states, provinces and countries for tax reasons — 183-day rules, the US Substantial Presence Test — which added Schengen 90/180 in 2026. It exports audit-ready PDFs and has a CPA portal, at 4.8★ from 50 US ratings, and reviewers who left pricier tax apps say it costs less. The catch is the account, and rules you configure rather than rules with a source.

Price. 14-day trial, then $3.99/month or $34.99/year per the FAQ; the App Store lists yearly at $34.99 and $39.99 (checked 17 August 2026).

7. Nomad Tracker — the widest free tier with GPS on iPhone

Nomad Tracker (Gotzon Zabala; released February 2026, version 3.7) puts GPS auto-counting, Schengen 90/180, 183-day monitoring, the FEIE 330-day count, US states and photo backfill in its free tier. Pro adds calendar sync, an AI "Fiscal Oracle", alerts, an OCR scanner and a Schengen planner; charging for alerts is backwards in a safety tool. Three ratings in six months, and its "Ranked #1 travel day tracker across AI comparisons" is a claim I cannot check. Nothing to do with Stretch, once called NomadTracker.

Price. Free tier. Pro $3.99/month; yearly $14.99 or $29.99; lifetime $69.99 or $129.99 (checked 17 August 2026). iPhone only.

8. TravelMax — free, GPS, no in-app purchases

A one-developer iPhone app from Germany (Maximilian Mende, March 2026) that spots country changes by GPS and works out your visa-free days for your nationality — its site says rules for 242 countries and rankings for 199 passports — plus a Schengen 90/180 count and a 183-day tax tally. It is free and means it, but it has zero ratings five months on, its rules carry no source and no checked date, and it is not on Google Play.

Price. Free, no in-app purchases (checked 17 August 2026). iPhone only.

9. The EU's official short-stay calculator — the benchmark

The European Commission's own web calculator is the reference every app here is tested against; Schengen Simple and qrallapps say so. Enter your stays and a control or planning date, and it gives days used and remaining. It remembers nothing and sends no reminders; its banner says it "is a helping tool only; it does not constitute a right to stay".

Schengen Simple charges up to $14.99 a year for one rule, qrallapps and 90 Days Schengen less, Bounded and Country Days Tracker more. Stretch's counter, alerts and documents are free for every country, forever. Five apps log by GPS, and the two that backfill from photos are where the "days I never spent" reviews come from; Stretch+ logs on the device, borders confirmed by you.
